Halloween pancakes are adorable jack-o-lantern pancakes perfect for Halloween breakfast! Use either my pumpkin pancake batter, or use food coloring to dye plain pancake batter orange. Adults and kids alike will love these!
If you’ve got the time, I really recommend making the pumpkin pancake batter for these! Not only does the orange coloring from the pumpkin really make these look like mini jack-o-lanterns, but they will taste just like Fall! Loaded with all spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg it makes these perfect for spooky season.
HOW TO SLICE THE APPLE PIECES
I first tested these pancakes last year and found that using apple pieces were perfect for getting that cute jack-o-lantern look.
Choose whatever type of apple you like best, but I recommend a larger apple like a red delicious or a granny smith. To make the mouths, take the slices and carefully either cut sharp or square teeth. Then, use additional slices to cut little triangles to be used for the eyes and nose.
I recommend cutting the apple slices “on demand” before making each pancake so that they don’t get too browned being exposed to the air for too long.
HOW TO MAKE THE PANCAKES
First, add the batter to the hot pan and use a spatula to help shape the batter into a circle.
Next, add the apple pieces to make the jack-o-lantern face, gently pressing down to make sure the pieces are secured within the batter. Once the pancakes are cooked on the first side, carefully flip then cook through on the other side.
Remove to a plate, top with butter and syrup and enjoy your Halloween pancakes!
If you’re making these ahead of time just keep them stored in the fridge then reheat in the pan or microwave on Halloween morning.

Ingredients
1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons white sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons allspice
1 and 1/4 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup + 1/8 cup half & half
1 cup pumpkin puree
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 eggs
3 teaspoons molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large apples
Instructions
1. Peel your apples and prepare the batter for the pancakes. In a large bowl combine the all purpose flour with 2 tablespoons white sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 3 teaspoons cinnamon, 2 teaspoons allspice, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, and 1 and 1/4 teaspoons salt. Whisk so everything is combined.
2. In another bowl, combine the 1 cup of pumpkin puree, 1 and 1/8 cup of half and half, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, 2 eggs, 3 teaspoons of molasses, and the 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
3. Add the wet pumpkin batter to the dry ingredients and stir until everything is combined.
3. Heat your pan and add the pancake batter trying to keep the pancakes as circular as possible.
4. While the pancakes cook on this first side, cut the apples into slices. Cut small triangles for the eyes and noses, and from the apple slices cut either square or triangular shaped teeth. (see photo in post above!)
5. Add a mouth, eyes, and nose to the pancakes gently pressing down to make sure the pieces are secured in the batter. When the pancakes are cooked on the first side carefully flip. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the pancakes are cooked through then remove to a plate. Repeat until you’ve cooked all the pumpkin pancakes!
