Calling all savory breakfast lovers! Jalapeño popper bagels are ready to eat in less than 15 minutes and are a perfect blend of seasoned cream cheese, sharp Cheddar cheese, and lots of jalapeños!

The great thing about these is that they are really a no-fuss recipe. You can use as much cream cheese, pepper, and cheese as you like! The only prep is dicing the fresh jalapeños then it’s as simple as mix, layer, broil!

WORKING WITH FRESH JALAPEÑOS

For these bagels I use fresh jalapeños. I prefer the flavor, the little bit of crunch, and that right vibrant green they add! Here are a few tips to working with these peppers.

Remove the seeds. The real heat of a jalapeño is in the seeds. Removing those will leave you with the pepper flavor without the overpowering heat!

Don’t touch your face. Since your hands will come in contact with the seeds don’t touch your face or your eyes! You could also wear food prep gloves. Make sure to wash your hands well after dicing the peppers!

Thoroughly wash your surfaces. After you’re done dicing, make sure to thoroughly clean the cutting board, knife, and anything else that came into contact with the seeds.

Don’t wash the insides of the peppers. Learned this one the hard way! Don’t use water to wash out the seeds. I’ve found doing this introduces the spice into the air and its really irritating to breathe!

I used mini bagels because I love these as a small light breakfast, but if you prefer you can use regular sized bagels and change it up with the flavor! These would be great with poppy seed, sesame seed, or an everything bagel.

Once you’ve combined the cream cheese with the garlic powder and diced peppers, add that to your bagel, topped with Cheddar cheese, some extra jalapeño pepper slices then broil until the cheese is browned and bubbly.

Ingredients

2 mini bagels (or 1 full sized bagel)
2 and 1/2 ounces softened cream cheese
1 tablespoon finely diced de-seeded jalapeños, plus some slices for garnishing
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Instructions

1. Combine the cream cheese with the tablespoon of diced jalapeños and the garlic powder.

2. Spread the cream cheese mixture onto the bagels, then top with as much Cheddar cheese as you’d like, and a few jalapeño slices.

3. Place under the broiler until the cheese is fully melted, browned and bubbly.

Serve immediately! For a crispier version, you can toast the bagel before adding the cream cheese.

Notes

I used mini bagels, but you can use a full sized bagel if you’d like! These would be great with an everything bagel, poppy seed, or sesame seed!
