It’s no surprise around here that I love a good cream sauce for pasta. A perfectly creamy and cheesy Alfredo sauce covering every noodle is like pasta dinner heaven. Since I love Alfredo so much, I’ve created a few different types of Alfredo sauce recipes so you can enjoy it with different flavors! Check out these 6 recipes and see which one you’d make first.
Alfredo Sauce
So let’s start with the basic recipe first. Alfredo sauce is made with light cream, Parmesan cheese, garlic, and butter. Plus, there’s one extra special ingredient that takes your Alfredo from “yum!” to “holy cow what is in this!?” The secret ingredient? Nutmeg!
Basil Alfredo
The first easy twist is to add lots of finely chopped basil to the cream sauce. It adds a fresh herby flavor and that little pop of green makes your pasta bowl extra pretty. You can chop the basil yourself, but I love using this lightly dried basil you can find in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. Make basil Alfredo this week for dinner!
Tomato Alfredo
I originally made this Tomato Alfredo back in 2014 then gave the photos and update in 2019. It’s one of my all-time favorites and it’s been popular on the blog for years! It can also be called a blush Alfredo since it has a pinkish hue to it. Start by making your Alfredo sauce then add some tomato paste. Perfect for when you can’t decide if you want a white or red sauce at dinner.
Spicy Alfredo
Ready to turn up the heat? Add some crushed red pepper to the sauce and make this spicy Alfredo!
Pesto Alfredo
Grab your jar of pesto (or use homemade!) and add 1/2 cup the the base of Alfredo sauce and you’ve just made pesto Alfredo! There’s SO much flavor in this recipe you’ll be going back for seconds…and maybe thirds!
Cajun Chicken Alfredo
Now we’re REALLY turning up the dial on flavor here. Cook thin chicken breasts that have been seasoned with Cajun spices, then make the Alfredo sauce with even more Cajun spices. Top with some tomatoes to add a little cool freshness to each bite. Cajun Chicken Alfredo will definitely fill you up for dinner.
