Caramelized apples are a fast and easy sweet treat that has all the best parts of apple pie filling!

Ingredients

2 Granny smith apples, diced
1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon all purpose flour
2 teaspoons white sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

1. In a medium pot melt the butter over medium-low heat.

2. Once the butter is melted, add the apples, lemon juice, both sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir so everything is combined. Reduce heat to low.

3. Cook the apples on low heat for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. For the last 90 seconds of cooking increase the heat to medium and continue to stir. This will allow the sugars to get slightly darker and a bit thicker.

4. Turn off the heat and add to a heat safe bowl.

Allow to cool a bit then add to ice cream, waffles, pancakes, cheesecakes, and more!

Notes

You can store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or a pot.
