When I first came across the photo for this recipe, it was so delicious looking it jumped right into my “must make” list. Of course, there are probably close to 100 recipes in this list, so it sadly got lost in the mix of “recipeland”. As I was sitting down trying to plan my weekly menu, I pulled this guy right out of the depth of the paper pile. With a title of “Sweet Ham and Swiss Sliders”, I automatically (and incorrectly) assumed there would be honey in the slider sauce. I was excited, because I actually had honey on hand! After reading the recipe, I realize there is no honey, but a crap load of butter. Being that I didn’t really want that much butter, I had to rework this into something that would fit my taste. Essentially, I turned this into an open faced sandwich with a tangy honey mustard sauce drizzled on top. These were absolutely amazing! The honey mustard has just enough tang to go along with the mild Swiss cheese and salty ham. I had two for dinner, then took another 2 for lunch the next day. I can’t wait to make these again! I served them with Green Giant Green Beans and Almonds, but added sauteed onions in there too.
Ingredients- Yielded 4 sliders
-4 Kings Hawaiian small dinner rolls (you’ll only be using the bottoms)
-4 slices thick sliced Virginia ham
-2 slices Swiss cheese
-1 tablespoon light mayo
-1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
-1 tablespoon honey
-1/2 teaspoon onion powder
-1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
-2 teaspoons brown sugar
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lay the 4 bottoms of the dinner rolls on the baking sheet. Spread with mayo. Top each with a slice of ham. (I tore the slices of ham in half to make them easier to fold onto the bun). Tare each slice of Swiss cheese into 4 squares. Place two small squares onto each bun. Place in oven 7-10 minutes.
2. In a small bowl, mix the mustard, honey, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. If sauce is too tangy, add honey a little at a time. Spread onto sliders, and bake an addition 7-10 minutes.
